The move of physical systems to the new data center in Carlstadt, NJ was performed in conjunction with major platform upgrades as well as the virtualization of over 300 physical systems.
Assisted with the identification, power down, decommissioning, and disposal of legacy hardware following HIPAA requirements.
Designed and implemented a successful Proactive Monitoring solution by creating a utility that audited each server against a set of basic configuration options that NYUMC considered to be "Best Practice".
Identified and corrected serious flaws in the Disaster Recovery capability of NYUMC.

Filled the role of Sr. Technical Advisor on behalf of an IBM Business Partner. Customer inherited workload and servers from Fifth Third Bank and needed to inventory these hosts with a focus on software licensing. It was estimated that the inventory included 350 UNIX hosts and 150 Intel hosts. There were also additional workload (and possibly servers) that would be arriving from 5/3rd Bank in the next quarter. The Oracle licensing year end was approaching and this information was required to re-negotiate licensing contracts.
Created a SOW for the overall project that was divided into the following phases:
Phase 1: Discovery - determine the existing physical and logical host configurations, with a focus on software licensing.
Phase 2: Consolidation Analysis - analyze historical CPU and memory utilization and formulate consolidation layout plan. This included the hardware requirements and the resulting software licensing status
Phase 3: Migration - migrate hosts to new or existing hardware based on the layout determined in Phase 2

Developed a method that created a distribution package of the XLP application using the Sun Microsystems package add format, and utilities.
The first phase of the application package method project, I wrote Bourne shell scripts that used sed, awk, getopts, etc. to create the prototype, pkginfo, preinstall, postinstall, preremove, postremove, request scripts, and other configuration files necessary to create an application package that could be used with JumpStart and have the ability to be patched.
The second phase was to create a method and utility that generated direct instance patches to the application packages.
The deliverables as defined by the functional requirements, and functional specification, were the utilities, unit test plans, detail design documents, release notes, user's guides, and a requirements traceability matrix.

Contracted for 6 months to the Configuration Management Division to provide an automated data collection system that captured hardware and software component data on a wide verity of mini-mainframe, and microcomputer systems within all of the National Data Centers.

Provided accurate adjusted dates of completion when the customer requested that I shift my focus from one phase to the next.

The discovery tool -- written mostly in csh, sed and awk -- collected hardware and software information from servers using scripted native operating system commands and utilities.
The resulting data was transferred to a central repository for processing into human readable reports and export files to an existing configuration management / asset tracking database application.

Responsible for the planning and execution of the operating system upgrade of all the production warehouse systems to a year 2000 compliant release level.
Upgraded the installed release of AIX 3.2.0 to 4.2.1, applied service level patches, performed backups, reconfigured volume groups and performed year 2000 compliance testing.
Installed and configured the warehouse management application DALLAS/EXE, installed and configured Informix Dynamic Server and Informix-SQL, PVCS (volume manager and configuration builder), QMaster, and set up error logs, user accounts, print queues, etc.
Traveled to many of the company's warehouses, primarily in the Central and Eastern US, to perform installations, upgrades and backups.
Wrote project plans and procedure guides for the systems upgrades, in addition to the test cases.
Responsible for orchestrating the year 2000 compliant upgrades of all production TELXON scanning equipment, both vehicle mounted and hand-held units, for each warehouse.
AIX operating system, EXE software application, and TELXON upgrades were performed concurrently so each warehouse could be signed off as completed with one site visit.
Designed a remote monitoring system utility encompassing all production UNIX platforms and operating systems.
Wrote design documentation for the monitoring utility that explained the purpose and benefits of remote system monitoring, gave an outline of system components to be monitored, the time needed to complete the project, resources needed, and its deliverables.
The monitoring programs were written using sed and awk so that readable formatted reports could be produced
